Update PracticeWorks CS Dental Software (Jordan Dental)
Check system requirements
Make sure all computers - server and workstations - meet the minimum system requirements of PracticeWorks CS before continuing.
The system requirements and technician installation guide should have been emailed to the primary contact at the practice ahead of scheduling. Ask them to forward this email or share its attachments with you so you can proceed. If they did not receive an email with this information, you will find it on the download site.
To find the documentation if you don't already have it:
- Go to https://softwaredownload.csdental.com/en-US/
- Login with the customer ID and ZIP code (see section at bottom of this article or check in PCRT; if not found, ask the primary contact for this information)
- Scroll to the bottom of the download page and click the link for additional resources
- Select PracticeWorks -> Support Documentation
- Find the Installation Guide and System Requirements article
Ensure a backup has been made
Every Practice will have their own backup process. Verify that a recent backup was made (nightly, ideally) before proceeding.
Jordan Dental
- Connect to HARDEESERVER via ScreenConnect
- Open the "Windows Server Backup" program
- Verify that the latest nightly backup occurred successfully
Get the installer
- On the server computer, go to https://softwaredownload.csdental.com/en-US/
- Login with the customer ID and ZIP code
- There should only be one download listed on this page - download it now
Update the server
Follow the "Updating the Server" section in the PracticeWorks Technician's Installation Guide
During the update process, you will be prompted to get a "release code" to continue the installation. Try the default option (internet) first.
If you are unable to obtain a release code over the internet, try again by choosing the "contact support" option to get the "Release Code" popup and reach out to PracticeWorks support for assistance.
When the server is updated, run the workstation update on the server as well since it also needs to have the updated workstation client.
Update workstations
Updating workstations after updating the server is the same process as installing a PracticeWorks CS on a new workstation
- On the workstation, navigate to the PracticeWorks share (normally,
P:\databut it can be found at\\server-name\PWORKS\dataas well, whereservernameis the name of the server) - Open the
WSetupfolder and runSetup.exe - Complete the setup process
- If the installation gives you a warning/error at the end about Pervasive SQL not running on the server, press Escape to close the popup and ignore it. The program installed correctly and will work correctly despite the error
- Open PracticeWorks CS after the computer reboots and observe that it is now on the new version
- Login and verify that you can contact the server by pulling up entries on the calendar or letting an employee check to make sure the update applied correctly
Workstation not working after update
If for any reason the workstation's copy of PracticeWorks isn't opening after the update, restart the computer and run the workstation installer again.
For example, the 10.1 update at Jordan Dental installed on most computers without issue, but some required 1-3 additional attempts of running the workstation installer to get it to take. Just keep trying. If it doesn't install correctly after 3 attempts, consider reaching out to support.
Customer IDs
The customer ID is a 6-10 digit number given to the dental practice from PracticeWorks. It will be in the email that was sent to the practice instructing them to do an update, or the practice should have it on file if it's not listed here or in their PCRT group
