Purchasing Batteries

In this article we go over where batteries can be purchased from, and how to position battery repairs.

Apple

When repairing Apple devices, there are a few factors to consider. Find the section that most closely resembles the computer you're working on.

In-Warranty

If we are working with an Apple product that still has warranty (Limited Warranty or Apple Care +) then we can ONLY order batteries from Apple directly. This is currently preformed through GSX2.

Out Of Warranty but not Vintage

Often computers are only a few years old. These computers no longer have warranty, but are not marked as Vintage or Obsolete. As per our contract with Apple, we are still required to obtain batteries directly through them.

As a caveat, customer can bring in their own batteries for us to instal. We do not recommend they do this, but we will do it.

Vintage and Obsolete

With Vintage and Obsolete (OBS) devices, Apple makes no guarantee of part availability. With this in mind, we can purchase third party batteries as a last option.

First, always check with Apple to see if they have the battery in stock. If the battery is in stock then we will install that one. If they are not then batteries can be purchased from Other World Computing (OWC).

As with the previous section, customers can bring in their own batteries and we will install them.

Windows

When it comes to Windows devices, we only have to consider the seller. They need to match the seller requirements in Purchasing and Pricing but I will lay them out again here:

We only purchase batteries from the manufacturer or an authorized reseller.

If you are unable to source a battery directly from the manufacturer, please refer the customer to a local business that sells batteries or to purchase their own third-party battery with a word of caution about the often lower quality and performance of non-genuine batteries.
