Procedure for Selling Floor Devices
Before selling a floor model device to a customer interested, a specific procedure needs to be followed. Because of this, a floor model device cannot simply be given to a customer. If a customer is interested in a Floor Model, first see if we have the device in question in stock in the back. If so, explain to the customer that we have the item in stock and take one from the store’s stock. If the device in question is not stocked (i.e. the floor model is the last of that device we have) speak to a lead technician about selling the floor model. Floor models are up front so customers have an idea of what they are getting. Floor models are not for sale unless approved by the store’s Lead Technician.
Setting Customer Expectations
If the selling of a floor model device was approved by the lead technician, proper framing is paramount to ensure the customer’s experience is smooth and clear.
Because a floor device was up front for anyone to use, we cannot give the customer the device until proper procedures have been followed. This is to ensure no previous customer data is on the device when given to the buyer. For most of our devices, a demo or guest mode has been enabled to allow for potential buyers to poke around and get a feel for the device. Because of this, we reload all floor model devices upon purchase to ensure the buyer is getting a fresh Operating System that is fully up to date with the latest software and drivers. Along with this, upon purchase and reload, a final diagnostic and functional inspection is performed to ensure the device is functioning properly and was not damaged during its time on display. A 1-3 day turnaround time should be positioned to the customer to ensure proper time to complete these steps. If the customer has an old device they would like us to migrate data from, a $60 migration charge applies and turnaround time may move up to 3-5 days. As always, the $60 urgent fee is available for expedited service.
