Insurance Coverage

There are several forms of Insurance that can cover Apple products. We will break down each type and what they cover.

AppleCare+ Coverage

All Apple devices come with a 1-year limited warranty when purchased from Apple or an Authorized Reseller. As part of the purchasing process for your device, you may have been asked to purchase an additional protection plan such as AppleCare or AppleCare+. Additionally, some devices may be covered by an insurance plan, such as those offered by your carrier.

1-yr Limited Warranty

The 1-yr limited warranty covers hardware issues and defects not caused by accidental damage. If accidental damage is present on the device, Apple may refuse to honor the limited warranty even if the accidental damage was not the cause of the current issue.

AppleCare Protection Plan

The AppleCare Protection Plan extends the device’s 1-yr limited warranty up to 2 years. Accidental damage is still not covered under this plan.

AppleCare+ Protection Plan

AppleCare+ offers additional coverage for the device that extends to accidental or physical damage. The device can be repaired or replaced according to the AppleCare+ protection with a nominal fee. For example, most iPhone screen replacements can be covered at $29 per incident as opposed to the standard screen replacement price.

Third Party Insurance

Third party insurance providers (such as Asurion) are not affiliated with University PC Care or Apple. If your device is covered by a third party insurance provider and you wish to process an insurance claim, you must contact the insurance provider or your cell phone carrier.

Common Questions

What if my AppleCare+ Coverage is not recognized by Apple?

If you purchased AppleCare+ coverage from your cell phone provider then it will sometimes not appear in Apple’s records correctly. If you would like to process your repair under AppleCare+ coverage, you will need to contact your carrier to have them update Apple’s records. Otherwise, we can proceed with the repair at regular price. Refunds or reimbursements will not be available for repairs where AppleCare+ coverage was not available at the time of the repair, even if AppleCare+ is retroactively applied to your device.

Can University PC Care process an insurance claim with my third party insurance provider?

No, claims with third party insurance providers must be conducted between the customer and the provider, or sometimes between the customer and the cell phone provider. If you wish for University PC Care to repair your device anyways then the repair will be billed to you at the regular applicable rate, after which your insurance provider may choose to reimburse you.

Will I receive a new or refurbished unit if Apple replaces my device?

Apple will replace your device with a new or refurbished unit at their discretion. We do not have any input on whether or not the device will be new or refurbished, and we are not given any information pertaining to the new or refurbished status of the device when it is returned to us.

Why is Apple charging me for a repair that should have been covered?

Apple may requote a repair at any time if there is damage or unauthorized modifications to the devices that are incidental to the reported issue or if the diagnosed issue differs from the reported issue. You may contact Apple at 1-800-MYAPPLE if you wish to dispute the quoted price- otherwise, we can accept or reject the quote or requote on your behalf.

How can I check my warranty status or AppleCare+ coverage?

Visit Apple’s Coverage checker at checkcoverage.apple.com. You will need your device’s serial number or IMEI number in order to check your coverage.
