Retrieving iOS Device Serial Numbers
Dealing with iPhones that have port damage is a natural part of our job. This article goes over how to run diagnostics and position this information to customers.
We need to get the serial number off of any iOS device before we can process the repair. If any of the steps do not work, continue to the next one. You can stop once you have the serial number to start the repair process.
Get the serial number of the iOS Device via one of the following methods:
- Unlock the device and go to Settings → General → About.
- Run Serial Number Reader on the device via AST2.
- Get the IMEI number from the SIM Card tray. In GSX, perform a search using the IMEI number to get to the device page.
- The customer must approve an extra $30 charge to do this step. Check in the device and get the MLB serial number following OP1981. Once you have the MLB serial number, get into an Apple chat in GSX with “Serial Number Issues” → “Unreadable Serial Number” → “iPhone”.
If you are not able to get the serial number via any of the above methods, then the device is ineligible for service.
